Pumpkin Spice

Do I have your attention now? As autumn rolls in it seems that these two words are everywhere.  Pumpkin spice lattes, muffins, and even air freshener! These words conjure images in our minds of red leaves, orange pumpkins, and golden stalks of wheat. The morning chill is tempered with a sweet warm drink in your hand. Trick-or-Treaters will soon be at our doors. Being outdoors requires a nice heavy afghan in place of sunscreen and bug spray.
This month’s projects are pumpkin spice inspired. From the “Wicked Stepmother” to a mysterious Warlock these projects are ready for fall… because lets face it, the star of this season is the warmth of your latest project in your lap.

Fall Club 2015 – “In Doors” and Out

Fall Club will open for sales on October 26th at 6am EST. There are a limited number of spots available this time around. Club sales will remain open until October 30th or until we’re full; whichever comes first. A Club basics Q&A can be found below, but look for a dedicated newsletter next Friday, October 16th with active links to get you directly to the club section of the website on sign up day.

Model Knitters Needed

We are so happy and grateful to be in a new space and creating at full capacity! Thanks to all who made this a reality. Our team is inspired and joyful! Sadly one of the things that we lost in the fire that our insurance cannot replace are our beautiful, precious models. Models are a very important part of our business. They are how we show customers what an evolution looks like in a finished project. Our sock tops show how stripes knit up and are used in all our colorway photos. We display them at shows and they represent our company visually.

We are looking for knitters and crocheters of various experience levels who “will work for yarn”!  We pay by the yard and the finished models will make their debut at VOGUEknitting Live! in Manhattan in January.  If you are interested please send us an email with a link to your Ravelry page and we’ll send you a brief questionnaire to help us match people to project.  We can’t wait to get started!

Models for Vogue must be completed and posted by Monday, December 30th 2015 so that we have enough time to  prepare them for the show.  But we will need more for future shows, new colorways and for display in our retail shop when we are back in a permanent home.

Come Join the Next Twisted Club!

Fall 2015 club basics:

  • Sign up begins Monday, October 26th.
  • Six colorways were designed for this club; two collections of three colorways each for a total of six exclusive, new colorways.  The three shipments are sent to you in Mid November, Early December, and Mid January.
  • The colorways remain a surprise until you receive your package each month.
  • Colorways are designed exclusively for this club and won’t be available to the general public for at least a year (often never!).
  • Here’s how it works.  Select your package then select which Colorway Collection you want.  If you can’t choose or love them both, select “Surprise Me!” and email your color prefrences to help Meg select the best of the colorways for you based on your yarn/roving picks!  We set up a special club hotline club@twistedfiberart.com just for this purpose.
  • A shipping charge is added by our shipping specialist to cover all three club deliveries (usually around $11, a bit more for those outside of North America).
  • For a limited time after the last shipment arrives, club members are able to order any of the 6 club colorways on any yarn or roving base!

Here’s a sneak peek of this Fall’s club choices:
“In Doors”

Inspired by a collection of photographs of doors and entryways from San Diego to Madrid. Sometimes bright, sometimes aged but all are colorful and fun!

and Out

Inspired by my deep desire to visit Iceland. From the moment I first encountered Bjork and The Sugarcubes, I've been hooked. The dynamic country with its wide range of colors and textures seems as avant-garde and unique as the artist.

Twisted was started in 2005 as a way to help support my family while I was a stay-at-home mom until I went back to work. Eventually I realized I was at work. I think it's safe to say that Twisted is going to be around for a while! I was lucky to start selling my handspun around the time Etsy was catching on. I learned a lot about yarn and knit fabrics and what I wanted them to look like. This information was crucial to the development of my current process. Soon I was selling lots of striping sock yarn (mostly Arial and Duchess). Demand grew and so did Twisted. Aggie came to work with me. She could skein so precisely and measure dyes so accurately! (I still miss her. But she is now a stay-at-home mom and volunteer for animal rescue and I wish her well!) While she was here we moved to our current studio space and switched to our own website. My mother, Anne, is even more experienced with computers than she is with knitting (very!). She helped a ton with the new site which allows for more options, customization and flexibility. She also does our sample knitting and lots of random yarn and computer tasks. My husband does the books and washes the yarn. Both of our kids help out as their busy schedules permit. I love having a family business! I was lucky to start selling from my own site about the time Ravelry was catching on. I think that might be the magic ingredient to my small business success! Thank you Casey and Jess! As much as I love striping sock yarn, I was longing to move in a new direction: Evolutions. This had been part of my master plan from the beginning, but sock yarn kept me busy until I couldn't hold it in any longer. Then I really needed more help! Anne Bohl joined the team and added her style and skills to the mix. She quickly became indispensable and is now a partner in the business. We are both so grateful for the opportunity to be able to put our families first while helping support our families and interact with the lovely yarn community! Thanks to all of you for making this possible! The Twisted Studio was housed in the servant's quarters of my 150 year old Italianate home for seven years until we were bursting at the seams. We are now located around the corner in a great store called Kean's - a crafter's paradise that has been run by the same family for nearly 100 years. It is the cutest store around and we are lucky to have enough space there to do the dyeing for our webstore as well as a small but beautiful retail spot. So come see us, we'd love to meet you face to face! See store hours, address and contact info here. Cheers! Meg
